We will stop the planned Fudan investment in district IX. and stand up in all cases where the government will represent the 1 per cent privileged interest instead of the 99 per cent – said Gergely Karácsony, co-chair of Párbeszéd party, mayor of Budapest.

Gergely Karácsony also said: The biggest problem in Hungary now is the current government, which has no moral purpose. “The Fudan case is Fidesz’s ultimate and complete moral suicide” – he said. He added, this case reveals that “all their words are lies”, “all their adherence to values is really just cunning” and “nothing is sacred to them”.

According to Gergely Karácsony, the Fudan case is about “whether there can be rulers in Hungary who perceive politics as domination instead of service”.

“The Fudan case is about whether this small country of ten million can finally decide its own destiny to become a free nation.”

Gergely Karácsony emphasized that they had gathered because of the Student City and because they did not want a Chinese elite university built on Hungarian taxpayers’ money from HUF 500 billion. He also stressed that they do not want the past to defeat the future in Hungary again and again.

Gergely Karácsony asked the participants to take part in the consultation launched about Fudan University, in the pre-election of the opposition, to support the winning candidates, to apply for vote counters next spring, and then to go to the parliamentary elections next April.
