40 Percent of Gyms Have Opened in Budapest – Members of Sports Associations Can Visit Them

Sport

From the beginning of February, the number of open gyms in Budapest has increased. For the time being, training opportunity is open to those who belong to one of the capital’s sports associations, but anyone can join these clubs.

Nearly half of the approximately 400 gyms in the capital are waiting for sports enthusiasts – even if they are currently only available to members of sports clubs.

It is unpredictable to most owners when the epidemic would end. In the meantime, however, they still have to pay the rent, which is a significant monthly expense for a room with a space of 3,000-4,000 square feet” – says Tamás Tóth, vice-president of the National Association of Hungarian Fitness Centers, managing owner of Oxygen Wellness Fáy. “Only about 15 to 20 percent of the original guest numbers now visits the gym regularly” – he added.

These guests are registered athletes at one of the sports associations, as it is now not possible to use the fitness centers as a private individual.

According to Tamás Tóth, it is important to know that there are no legal obstacles for dedicated amateur athletes to join a sports association, as a member of which they can already use the services of gyms.

There is currently no sauna and wellness services in the gyms, so only training is possible.
