The construction of the Budapest Athletics Stadium has started, the project includes the rehabilitation of the VITUKI site and the Danube bank area known so far as industrial areas.
A new, open sports and recreation public park will also be created, reported BMSK Investment, Technical Development, Sports Operation and Public Procurement Zrt. investment agency on Wednesday (9th December).
In connection with the construction of the National Athletics Stadium for the 2023 World Athletics Championships, the tower building of the VITUKI Environmental and Water Management Research Center will be demolished with explosive technology on 10 December.
In the development area, new flood defenses, coastal pedestrian walkways, bicycle paths and boat stations will be built from Rákóczi Bridge to the Kvassay Lock and through the new Cable Bridge to North Csepel. The development will also connect the northern and southern areas of the entire Pest embankment all the way to Csepel Island.
Instead of the former industrial functions, residential parks and office buildings, which were previously articulated as design proposals, various sports and recreation functions will be created on the site. One of the main goals of the project is to link the development to the outstanding natural values of the area.
