The Hungarian State Opera House designed by Miklós Ybl will reopen to the public on March 12 following a renovation that has restored the building in Budapest to its original glory, the Opera said on Thursday.
At the opening gala event with President János Áder in attendance, Ernő Dohnányi’s rarely heard Festival Overture, parts from Zoltán Kodály’s folk opera Háry János and László Seregi’s ballet, Taming of the Shrew, will be performed.
The programme also includes recitals of Hungarian-themed titles such as Berlioz’s Rákóczy March, Brahms’s Hungarian Dance No.5 and Strauss Jr’s Viva Hungary polka under the baton of Placido Domingo.
