A total of 3,247 people fleeing the war in Ukraine, including 770 children, arrived in Budapest by train on Sunday, the Budapest police headquarters said.
Most of them continued their way individually or went to relatives after collecting information at the station, police.hu said on Monday. Authorities transported 122 people, including 23 children, to shelters in and around Budapest. The Budapest police and members of the rapid response team are assisting refugees arriving by train from Ukraine at the Keleti and Nyugati railway stations. In order to provide them with food, transport and accommodation, the police are in constant contact with the national directorate-general for disaster management, the migration authority, public transport companies, the Budapest police and the staff of aid organisations, police.hu said.
