Revamp Makes Danube Embankment Near Parliament Pedestrian-Friendly

Local News

The lower embankment of the Danube in Budapest between Parliament and Margaret Bridge has been made more pedestrian-friendly, with a new walkway completed two weeks ahead of schedule, the Budapest transport centre BKK said.

The area has also been made greener, with 35 saplings planted between the road and the Danube. Thanks to the revamp, pedestrians will be able to more conveniently enjoy views of the world heritage site, BKK said. The area will reopen to pedestrians on Monday but cars will not be allowed to return for the time being, it added. Planning for the continuation of the lower embankment revamp project is under way, BKK said.
