For decades the Spring Festival has been the biggest series of cultural events after the carnival period in Hungary. In Debrecen the festival is going to be held for the 22nd time in 2012 and just like in previous years offers a programme of high quality. Although the festival’s programme includes mainly the performances of Hungarian artists, quality entertainment is guaranteed for all, be it a local or a foreigner. Pop, jazz, film, theatre or fine arts – the range of genres is just as wide as always.
The programme series starts on 6th March with the concert of Váczi Eszter and the Quartet. The lead singer’s smooth voice and gentle personality have made her one of the most easily recognizable voices of the Hungarian jazz scene. Other jazz performances of the festival include the concert of the Hungarain Tzumo Trio and the Belgian Wim Mertens.
The Csík group has been playing folk music for decades. Their collaboration with young musicians of the alternative, jazz and pop music scene has quickly made them one of the most popular Hungarian groups of the past few years. Their new album, which they will perform to the audience of Debrecen on 29th March, will hopefully be just as successful as their previous ones.
Just like Csík, Budapest Bár is undoubtedly among the most popular groups today due to their peculiar music style in which gypsy and alternative music blends with the popular chansons of the ’20s and ’30s. At their upcoming concert in Debrecen popular musicians and actors will play on the stage at the same time, performing a show full of creativity and cheerfulness.
Magdi Rúzsa, the winner of the Talent Search “Megastar” 2006, is coming to perform in Debrecen on 10 April with her new album on which she sings about her life in a more personal tone that will certainly surprises the audience.
The Spring Festival’s programme offers much more than this – children’s programmes, film premieres, art exhibits and a large scale performance of the 75-year-old world famous Moiseyev company.
