Europe

János Áder, Hungary’s president, has started a two-day official visit in Rome to attend a meeting of the Arraiolos Group.

The group, named after the Portuguese village where it first met in 2003, was originally established with the aim of creating a forum for European presidents without executive power to discuss European affairs. This year the participants will focus on external factors that may influence the future of the European Union in the post-pandemic period, the president’s office told MTI on Monday. On Thursday, Áder is scheduled to hold separate talks with presidents Sergio Mattarella of Italy and Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany. The president will be accompanied by his wife, Anita Herczegh, during the visit, the office said.
