This Year’s Aase Laureates Named

Margit Horváth from Móricz Zsigmond Theater in Nyíregyháza, Éva Szabó from Central Theater, Károly Kuna from Vörösmarty Theater in Székesfehérvár and Lajos Spilák, actor of Studio K, will receive the Aase Award for theatrical episodes this year.

The Aase Award, which is given each year to two actresses and two actors by a board of renowned artists, was founded by Hilda Gobbi in her will for “protagonists of memorable minutes, moments, words, movements” for episode role makers.

The award was named after one of the figures in Henrik Ibsen’s drama Peer Gynt, Mother Aase, because although the role itself is short, it offers an unforgettable portrayal of the figure.

The award has traditionally been given to the artists at the Bajor Gizi Actors’ Museum, where everything reminds us of the great figures of Hungarian acting and especially Hilda Gobbi.

This year, given the pandemic situation, the ceremony will be cancelled.
